DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

The Daughters of the King is an Order for women of the Episcopal Church and churches within the historic Episcopate, organized in 1885.  Every Daughter pledges herself to a lifelong program of prayer, service and personal evangelism, dedicated to the extension of Christ’s kingdom and to the strengthening of the spiritual life of her parish.  By reaffirmation of promises made at confirmation, every Daughter undertakes a Rule of Life, incorporating the Rule of Prayer and the Rule of Service.  Primarily, service is to the clergy and the congregation, however, Daughters are encouraged to pursue individual paths of service as well.

The only requirement for membership is that a woman be a communicant in good standing of her church. The Saint Monica Chapter of the Order of the Daughters of the King was chartered at Church of the Messiah in 2007.    Since that time, the Order has involved itself in a number of activities, including participating in Red Cross Blood Drives, The Samaritan’s Purse Christmas Project,  Red Cross Letters to Santa,  assisting the Altar Guild with seasonal preparations, volunteering hours in the church office, serving Lenten dinners, reorganizing and cataloging the church library, and collecting donated goods for local charities such as Micah and New Vision.

Daughters wear a Greek fleury cross with the motto “With heart, mind and spirit, uphold and bear the cross”.  At the base of the cross are the letters FHS, “For His Sake”. Ask anyone wearing the silver Greek cross about our chapter or call the church office for more information.

FOR HIS SAKE
I am but one:
but I am one.
I cannot do everything,
but I can do something.
What I can do,
I ought to do.
What I ought to do,
by the grace of God,
I will do.
Lord,
what will you have me do?
